Tim was born in Northumberland and studied at the Newcastle College of Art and the Exeter College of Art and Design. He worked at the Newcastle School for Deaf Children and before setting himself up as a freelance illustrator. His first book was called The Race and was published by A & C Black.  He now lives in Kelso, Roxburghshire.

Jonathan Allen

Jonathan Allen is the author and illustrator of many popular fiction and picture books for young children. His previous books for Transworld includes the flap book CHICKEN LICKEN, two Corgi Yearlings THE FLYING SQUAD and KEEP-FIT CANARIES, and he has illustrated Dick King-Smith’s poetry, JUNGLE JINGLES AND OTHER ANIMAL RHYMES.

Kathy Ashford

Kathy Ashford is an Adult Education Tutor, and previously worked as Director of Communications at the University of Surrey. She likes long country walks, photography, painting and gardening - and reading. As a child she used to munch through huge amounts of fudge while enjoying works by C.S. Lewis, Alan Garner and P.G. Wodehouse. She was the only girl in a family of brothers, and she is now married with four sons!

Roy Apps

ROY APPS began his writing career writing jokes for radio comedy programmes. He has now written a number of popular children's titles, including The Secret Summer of Daniel Lyons, which won the Writers' Guild Award for Best Children's Book, l992, and was the runner-up for the Whitbread Award for Best Children's Book in the same year. He is a scriptwriter on the long-running children's drama series, Byker Grove, and his children's radio work includes a dramatisation of Raymond Briggs' Fungus the Bogeyman, which was shortlisted for the 1995 Sony Awards.
