0. How To Conker The World - Paperback   £3.99
by Kathy Ashford
(Books/All genres) (ISBN:9781842703212)

Seb's class have actually been given a great homework assignment! They have to find twenty uses for horse chestnuts that do not involve whirling them around on bits of string. Seb can't wait to get started; and the results are hair-raising! First of all, he strips the prize conker tree next door of all its nuts - and then he knocks out all the spindles in the banisters when he rushes his wheel-barrow of conkers to his room. And that is only the start of the chaos. He has loads of ideas to demonstrate how conkers can help mankind, and he puts all of them to the test. Perhaps the jet-propelled cinders were going a bit far, though.

0. The Jackdaw Jinx - Paperback   £4.99
by Kathy Ashford
(Books/All genres) (ISBN:9781842705407)

Rob goes to the local common (aka The Dump) and finds a jackdaw chick there. He takes Joe the Jackdaw home, and keeps him as a pet. Well, he couldn't leave him to die, could he? He causes no end of mess in the house, and then he starts flying into other houses in the street and stealing shiny things from them. The ultimatum comes. Joe must go and live somewhere else. A long way away.
But then Joe discovers green glass. Lots of it. And it's Anglo-Saxon! The campaign to save the common is finally going to work, and it's all thanks to the jackdaw!

Out of Shadows

by Jason Wallace

'Excellent. [Out of Shadows is] the
latest lacerating addition to the
boarding-school-as-living-hell genre
... read on if you have the courage.
The author attended a similar
establishment at the age of 12,
and gives every indication of knowing
exactly what he is writing about.'

Elmer's Special Day

by David McKee

'The first Elmer book seemed like a great and original one-off, McKee's extraordinary imagination and colourful art have between them maintained originality and delight over all these years: amazing.' Chris Brown, School Librarian
