Kathy Ashford was born in Surrey in 1959, and studied at Bristol University, before going on to do an MA on Writing For Children at King Alfred’s College, Winchester. She was the Director of Communications at the University of Surrey for many years, and is now an Adult Education Tutor.
She says that she has always loved reading, and could be found munching huge amounts of fudge while doing so as a child. She lives in Guildford, and has four sons. Kathy likes long country walks, and claims to be an ace stick thrower for her dog. She also enjoys gardening, but it is hampered by the rabbit that follows her around eating as she plants!
HOW TO CONKER THE WORLD is Kathy Ashford’s first book and was published by Andersen Press in July 2004.

Out of Shadows
by Jason Wallace
'Excellent. [Out of Shadows is] the latest lacerating addition to the boarding-school-as-living-hell genre ... read on if you have the courage. The author attended a similar establishment at the age of 12, and gives every indication of knowing exactly what he is writing about.'

Elmer's Special Day
by David McKee
'The first Elmer book seemed like a great and original one-off, McKee's extraordinary imagination and colourful art have between them maintained originality and delight over all these years: amazing.' Chris Brown, School Librarian
