The Dog in the Diamond Collar , in which their investigative powers and their courage are once more used to great effect!
Metal-Mutt is the amazing result of young Tom's inventive genius. He is a robot dog that can clean, iron, cook and wash up! But the bosses at the Institute of Inventions do not like dogs. 'Dogs don't do dishes,' they say, and decree he must be destroyed. Tom is too fond of Metal-Mutt to destroy him, so he advertises him in the local newsagent's window. The laziest family ever take him home, but they ignore him, while expecting endless work from him, so Metal-Mutt becomes extremely miserable. Then he spots Cherise Orchard falling into the river, and leaps to her rescue. As he has no collar, Cherise is delighted to be able to take this brave dog home. It doesn't matter at all that all his insides have become corrupted in the water, and now 'Prince' can't do domestic work at all.
0. Toad Prince - Paperback
£3.99 by Rebecca Lisle
(Books/All genres)
(ISBN:9781842703151) This is a modern version of the fairy tale about the Princess who kisses a frog, and he turns into a Prince - although in this retelling, she kisses a toad, and he doesn't turn into a Prince immediately. Oh no. He just falls in love with her generous spirit, and then has to get a wizard to perform the transformation. Very luckily he is friendly with the Court Magician's shaggy dog, and between them they manage to manipulate the wizard's magic for their own ends. The toad makes an incredibly ugly Prince (all protruding eyes, and prehensile tongue, not to mention an abiding delight in eating flies). How amazing that the Princess is just like him! They could have been made for each other!
When a rich little boy disappears from his luxurious home, his parent and neighbours are frantic with worry. But three local children get special help from his dog, and follow a series of unexpected clues to find him in a most unlikely spot!

Out of Shadows
by Jason Wallace
'Excellent. [Out of Shadows is] the latest lacerating addition to the boarding-school-as-living-hell genre ... read on if you have the courage. The author attended a similar establishment at the age of 12, and gives every indication of knowing exactly what he is writing about.'

Elmer's Special Day
by David McKee
'The first Elmer book seemed like a great and original one-off, McKee's extraordinary imagination and colourful art have between them maintained originality and delight over all these years: amazing.' Chris Brown, School Librarian
