Quentin Blake

'Blake is beyond brilliant. He can tell wonderful stories without a single word. I've never met a child who didn't love Quentin Blake.'

Melanie  McDonagh,  Daily  Telegraph

Quentin Blake is one of Britain's best-loved and most successful illustrators and children's authors. His first drawings were published in Punch when he was 16. He has illustrated over 300 books with writers such as, Michael Rosen, Russell Hoban, Joan Aiken, John Yeoman and, most famously of all, Roald Dahl. Quentin Blake writes and illustrates his own books as well, creating such characters as Mister Magnolia, Mrs Armitage and Clown.

For many years he taught at the Royal College of Art, where he was head of the Illustration Department from 1978 to 1986. His books have won numerous prizes and awards, including the Whitbread Award, the Kate Greenaway Medal, the Emil/Kurt Maschler Award and the international Bologna Ragazzi Prize. He won the 2002 Hans Christian Andersen Award for Illustration, the highest international recognition given to creators of children's books. In 2004 Quentin Blake was awarded the 'Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres' by the French Government for services to literature. According to The Guardian, he was 'already a national institution' when he was appointed the first Children's Laureate in 1999.

0. You're Only Young Twice - Hardback   £9.99
by Quentin Blake
(Books/All genres) (ISBN:9781842708569)

Quentin Blake's drawings have been entertaining children and their parents for as long as any of us can remember, but this is the first time he has illustrated a book specifically for his own generation. Characteristically, it's humane and extremely funny at the same time, and if you are sixty or over – or even thinking about it – this book is required reading.

Out of Shadows

by Jason Wallace

'Excellent. [Out of Shadows is] the
latest lacerating addition to the
boarding-school-as-living-hell genre
... read on if you have the courage.
The author attended a similar
establishment at the age of 12,
and gives every indication of knowing
exactly what he is writing about.'
