Peter Bently grew up in an army family and went to ten different schools. He studied languages at Oxford and worked as a journalist and non-fiction book editor before becoming a children's author when his own two children were very small. He is the author of more than sixty books, including Cats Ahoy!, illustrated by Jim Field, which won the Roald Dahl Funny Prize, and King Jack and the Dragon, illustrated by Helen Oxenbury, which was an American Library Association Notable Book of the year.
David Roberts is an award-winning illustrator who has earned great acclaim for his distinctive style. He was born in Liverpool and studied fashion design at university in Manchester. After graduating, he worked as a milliner and a fashion illustrator, but always felt his true calling was in childrens books. He is also the creator of the popular Dirty Bertie books. He lives in London with his husband. His book Little Red was shortlisted for the 2005 Kate Greenaway Medal. In 2006 he won the Nestlé Childrens Book Prize Gold Award for his line drawings in Mouse Noses on Toast.
