TREACLE TOWN shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal for Writing

Andersen Press is delighted to announce that Brian Conaghan has been shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal for Writing for his hard-hitting and powerful novel, TREACLE TOWN.

News was announced at London Book Fair, in which the announcement read, Conaghan has “This ‘highly authentic and realistic’ story explores poverty and lack of opportunity as a teenage boy embraces slam poetry to escape gang violence and secure a hopeful future, with dialect conveying ‘a strong sense of place to help immerse the reader.’”

This is Brian Conaghan’s second time being shortlisted for the medal, and follows success at the KPMG Children’s Books Ireland Awards, where Treacle Town won the Honour Book for Fiction.

Winners of the Carnegie Medals will be announced on Thursday 19 June at a live and streamed ceremony at the Cambridge Theatre. The ceremony will be hosted by Andersen Press author and winner of the Carnegie Medal for Writing in 2024, Joseph Coelho.
