We’re so pleased to share that Justin Worsley has been shortlisted for the Klaus Flugge Prize for the most exciting and promising newcomer to children’s picture book illustration with Henry the Artistic Dog.
The inspiration behind the book came when Justin was walking his dog Percy and was mightily impressed with one of his artistic creations. Although the story is about a dog who uses unusual methods to create his striking sculptures, there is also a powerful message about the importance of perseverance and creativity.

Set up in 2016, the Klaus Flugge Prize honours hugely influential publisher Klaus Flugge, founder of Andersen Press. The £5,000 prize is awarded annually to the most talented newcomer to children’s book illustration and is the only prize specifically to recognise a published picture book by a debut illustrator. The Klaus Flugge Prize is regarded as one of the most significant children’s book awards.
The longlist was celebrated at an event in Waterstones Piccadilly on Tuesday 5th May and the winner will be announced at an award ceremony in London on Wednesday 9th September 2026.
Andersen Press author and illustrator Eva Eland took home the prize in 2020 for her picture book When Sadness Comes to Call.
Congratulations and good luck to Justin!
